BECOMING A WOODWORKER: THE HOW-TO-START COMPLETE GUIDE

LEGGI QUESTO POST IN ITALIANO

Finally the idea of “sowing” I told you in the  first article  begins to take shape.

Today I met George, the Woodworker who will help me to give you the right advice, if you’re an aspiring Woodworker, a Do-It-Yourself Fan or a semi-professionist.

First of all we brainstormed an idea of the program that this Blog will follow.

In fact, to start working as a Woodworker the first thing (after the passion and the desire to do it) is, of course, a well-studied plan.

Here are the topics that I will deal with George and then refer to you on this Blog:

1 Workspace

2 Tools

3 Materials

4 Techniques of Traditional and Modern carpentry

5 Accessories

6 Technical Drawing

7 BONUS (you’ll find out at the end)

WOODWORKER’S WORKING AREA

You will be entered at least once in your life in a Woodworking Shop .

Huge tables, circular saws, planes of various sizes, screwdrivers, drills and a lot of tools (of which you probably have not understood the utility).

How many machines and tools are there in that Shop?

Like me, I think you too will be asked:

HOW WOULD YOU FIND THE TOOLS
THAT YOU NEED
AT THE RIGHT TIME?

Well, every Woodworker will no doubt have their own habits and its organization of work , but George will help us understand how to ideally position the tools and workbench according to our needs to optimize the work and get better results in less time .

Having the right tools, handy at the right time can make us save time and effort.

You might want to only do DIY and make small wooden objects .

Or you are a semi-expert who already has a bit of familiarity and some small experience (at least 50% of you have tried to make a simple shelf) and want to improve their skills.

Every successful professional  always wants to implement a personal development to keep pace with market demands.

My diary will be useful in both cases!

 THE  TOOLS

Another key argument, closely related to organization of the work space , are certainly the tools.

Thanks to our friend George, we will know the various woodworker’s tools .

The basic tools to begin to create the first simple objects  and more advanced tools ,  analyzing features and functions.

Good news for you: I’ll integrate the follow articles (when is possible) with photos and video processing and reviews for woodworking tools that will be used.

WOOD: NATURAL WOOD AND DERIVATIVES

Fundamental Topic and main reason why I decided to start this blog is without a doubt  the wood .

For me “the material” par excellence.

Perfect bond between man and nature.

When you think about an iconic element that can represent nature it is thought almost immediately (in the top 5 or thereabouts) to tree.

The wood is the hottest item in our homes.

The first material that was used to build houses and tools of various kinds from the human being.

He accompanies man since the dawn of time and has been instrumental in the development of life on Earth (just think of the stilts, the bow and arrow, fire, etc.)

What I will do in this blog is a complete (where is possible) list of types of wood most used in woodworking with:

1 Origin (tree and mode of extraction of the blank)

2 Physical (how to recognize the right wood)

3 Specifications (sweetness, softness, fiber, etc.)

4 Scope (furniture, objects, carpentry etc.)

Moreover also we explore artificial woods , often overlooked and snubbed.

JOINERY TECHNIQUES
TRADITIONAL AND MODERN

I will insert in my articles the Traditional Woodworking techniques, tools the invention of which is often lost in the mists of time, and Modern techniques in which the most modern materials and tools are used (including pantographs and CNC).

ACCESSORIES AND HARDWARE

Another important topic.

To know and to choose the right screws, nails, hinges, drawer slides and sliding, handles and all the hardware useful to you becoming a woodworking expert or even a DIY fan, but very competent.

TECHNICAL DRAWING AND DESIGN

One thing to which a craftsman , and in our case a woodworker , cannot do without, is without a doubt the design .

On this subject, I will be to help (because of my profession of Designer ) teaching you to make a preliminary sketch to get a detailed and accurate design of objects which we’ll realize together.

I’ll give you the tools to read and carry out a project Woodworker-Designer to put your ideas on paper and not make big mistakes in construction phase.

BONUS TRACK:

You will have the opportunity to discover all the little secrets that woodworkers don’t reveal.

I will create special contents just for you and you can read it when you will receive by email or by downloading them directly from this blog.

So my experience of Wood Blogger is taking off in a rather promising, don’t you think?

In the next article we will start to get into the field and there we will dirty our hands .

ARE YOU READY?

Meanwhile you can subscribe to the newsletter (down-left on this page) so you’ll be sure not to miss the next articles.

They are very precious!

Ah, remember to follow the Facebook page The Wood Blogger , the profile Instagram and my Pinterest !

Thank you for reading this article.

I’ll leave you with a question to ask you kindly to answer in the comments:

Would you like me to put available for you even 3D drawings of the objects that will build with George?

They could be very useful to easily understand the projects and work better.

Let me know what you think, please!
